New Ace in Our Place
This is the face of pure love!
Kimberly has been waiting for her puppy for over five years. She was promised the next puppy in the house could be hers but when we moved into a restrictive rental that barely allowed Christina’s Primrose, she had to wait on getting her puppy. She’s been dreaming, planning, and still helping with other puppies. She gets to dog sit, loves our Primrose (who is technically Christina’s dog), and randomly sent us pictures of some doggie to be rescued somewhere with emoji puppy eyes saying something like, “isn’t he so sweet, can’t I get him?”
She has always wanted a pittie mix. Pitbull Terriers were called “Nanny Dogs” back in the day and when raised right, are the perfect protective companion for a semi-wild family full of adventurous children. She loves how we helped with shelter dogs when she was very small and loved our rescue doggie stories. She wanted a story like that; one where God sent her the perfect pup to rescue and love forever. Like our Sheba, whose momma doggie pushed the little runt away; that tiny puppy was a godsend for our family! Or like Primrose, who grabbed Christina’s heart while we were caring for her littermates and trying to find them homes.
We’ve been in our new house for about two and a half months when randomly, a facebook post pops up from one of my former coworkers. Her mom is taking care of puppies and wants to find them good homes. I showed Kimberly. She almost died with excitement!
Mom! They are perfect! I want a boy, are there any boys? (6 of the 7 were boys) I love them already; how much is the adoption fee? When can I get him? How old are they? They look like pitties, are they really pit mixes? Oh, wow, Mom! The black and white one is beautiful! They are all so cute! I’ll take whatever one needs me! Is that mom? What is their birthday? To make it easier and answer all the questions quickly, I messaged her that my 17-y-o was interested and if she was okay with chatting her the details, I gave her my crazy near-adult’s phone number. Yes, this was the little gymnast who stood on her block at her first annual show and said, “I want to be a veterinarian.” She’s moved on to different life goal dreams like most children do, but she still loves every animal she has met.
The mom is a terrier mix, likely some pitbull. She was 35lbs. Primrose weighs in at 40 to 45lbs. No info on the doggie daddy (that’s usual for rescue dogs). Kimberly’s so super excited. She makes lists and goes to buy puppy items and equipment.
Fast forward to Wednesday, December 11.
Kimberly came to the gym with her new baby. He’s already named: Ace. The most important position of a volleyball squad, it also means primary or first, and in cards, the Ace is highest. He’s such a tiny, sweet baby. He instantly loved Kimberly as mommy. He sleeps with her, he follows her everywhere, he tries to eat her… almost kidding but not really on the last one as he’s teething. Tuesday was her last college day of the semester, and gymnastics and work takes a tiny slowdown over Christmas break, so she will smother this little puppy with lots of time and love right off.
Primrose likes him sometimes and tolerates him others. She is a little too protective of Laud though and has moved Ace away from Laud several times. Laud loves “my puppy!” which was his yell after Kimberly said to Lucas, “he’s my puppy!” (Laud has learned to repeat) Lucas has already become a responsible puppy-watcher. He loves Ace.
Our coworker at the front desk, who loves all babies, got rather excited because there was a slightly damaged teddy bear shirt they had almost thrown away the day before when cleaning and she directed Kimberly to dress him in it! Yes, little baby Ace is wearing a teddy bear shirt! It’s a bit big on him, to which one of the other girls quipped, “he’ll have to grow into it!”
Now for some cute puppy pictures for you to ooh and ahh at:
Welcome to our amazing, crazy, wild family, little Ace! Kimberly will be the best mommy in the world to you! You’ll keep your sweet, adventurous nature and be her best friend for years and years. You’ll investigate those who come to court her. She’ll trust your judgement of people. You will run with her once your little legs get bigger. You will continue to bring happiness to those who love you. We dream big dreams for you, Ace, and I am so thankful God placed a perfect puppy in Kimberly’s path when the time was just right!
