Pit Cleaning Fun!
Tons of blue and black foam dust mixing with chalk dust and clogging everyone’s airways as we laugh, tease, and toss blocks is the environment we refer to at WGV Gymnastics as a “Pit Cleaning Party.”
Kimberly, Jaquline, Jillian, Lucas, Thea, Laud, and I were part of this crazy fun!
It is one of my favorite parts of routine gym maintenance! I love the camaraderie as youth athletes (our team girls) and employees volunteer shoulder to shoulder. We goof off, find creative ways to annoy each other, and try to keep the foam dust goop out of our hair as we toss a million billion squares out of the giant cement dry swimming pool with a trampoline floor aka the pit.
Once this enormous task is done, the entire surface of the gym floor is covered 3 or 4 feet deep with foam blocks! We take two rotations for food break. Pizza is nice. Just don’t sneeze as it will turn your pizza blue!
Sweep out all the trash and excess foam dust. I’ll bet there were 50 bags carted off to fill the dumpster.
Now for the crazy part…
Yes, now, we have to get all those blocks back in the pit! Imagine a giant concrete hole in the floor like a swimming pool. It’s huge. It’s deep. There’s a trampoline covering the entire bottom. That’s the empty pit.
Those million billion blocks get shoved, kicked, thrown, or bulldozed in with mats. But we got them in! And the pit is fluffed and please don’t anyone get stuck!
In after 630pm and out before midnight. Our pit crew left feeling connected and accomplished – what a happy crew and a big job done!
I am so thankful for my gym family!!
